Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Minister-Designate for Lands and Natural Resources, has pledged to halt the issuance of new licenses for mining in forest reserves.
He emphasized the importance of thoroughly reviewing the process for issuing mining licenses.
Appearing before the Appointments Committee on Monday, January 27, Mr Armah-Kofi Buah expressed grave concerns about the devastating impact of mining on water bodies and forest reserves.
He also outlined measures to restore degraded lands and assured the Committee of a comprehensive approach to addressing the environmental challenges caused by mining activities. "We are not going to open ourselves for further damage and that is why we are going to stop further issuance of any license for mining in forest reserve.
