Mahama Ayariga, Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Representative to the ECOWAS Parliament, has been appointed Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Ghana's 9th Parliament.

Announcing the news on January 23, 2025, Ayariga expressed gratitude to former President John Dramani Mahama, NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and his parliamentary colleagues for entrusting him with the role. "I wholeheartedly accept this appointment and the confidence reposed in me," he stated.

Reflecting on his political career, Ayariga noted that he first entered Parliament on January 7, 2005, and has since served in various senior roles, including as a Deputy Minister, Minister of State, and in the Office of the President.

He described himself as a seasoned parliamentarian, with nearly two decades of frontbench experience.
