The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has said that it is in talks with the Education Minister to grant financial clearance for the recruitment of 2,500 teaching staff. In a statement issued on August 16 and signed by the Director-General of GTEC, Professor Ahmed Jinapor, the move is to ease the workload of academic work at the colleges of education while they work with the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG) to resolve their concerns. CETAG members have been on strike since June 14 and calls for the schools to be shut due to non-academic activity has proved futile. The statement indicated that "the recruitment will take place as soon as the clearance is provided". GTEC however, said it has migrated 20 institutions as of August 16 and hopes to complete all the 46 by end of the month.
