The Catholic Bishops Conference has commended the National Elections Security Task Force (NESTF), led by the Inspector General of Police Dr.
George Akuffo Dampare, for its "exceptional" role in providing security during the 2024 General Elections.
In a statement on December 19, 2024, the Conference said "As a nation committed to democratic values and the peaceful exercise of political rights, the importance of ensuring the security of citizens, electoral officials, and the integrity of the electoral process cannot be overstated. "The NESTF's dedication and professional handling of security measures throughout this election period has been invaluable in maintaining peace and stability across the country".
It further noted "We acknowledge the tireless efforts of the Task Force in preparing for and overseeing security arrangements both before and during the elections. "Your proactive approach in mitigating potential threats, maintaining order at polling stations, and ensuring the safety of voters and election officials has contributed greatly to the credibility of the electoral process. "There were the unfortunate pockets of vandalism and violence during and after the elections but by facilitating a safe environment, you have allowed Ghanaians to participate in the elections with confidence, free from fear or intimidation".
