More details are emerging from the December 7, 2024, general elections that provide insight into the humiliating defeat suffered by the ruling (NPP).
In the Upper East Region, for instance, where the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) swept all seats in Parliament, taking back the only seat held by the NPP - the Binduri Constituency seat - the performance of the ruling party was worse.
The performance was so bad that in as many as 20 polling stations in the Bawku and Binduri constituencies, the NPP got zero votes in the presidential election.
The people of Bawku have faulted the NPP for the resurgence of the chieftaincy dispute in the area, and it appears they took their frustration to the ballot box.
