The Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has said that he expects the Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lawmakers to comply with the ruling of the Supreme Court on the vacant seat case.To him, the constitution of Ghana has prevailed with the supreme court decision, an indication of Ghana's growing democracy."We expect our colleagues including Mr Speaker to respect the outcome of this case so we move on as a nation.
In West Africa and Africa as a whole, all we have is our democracy, Ghana shines in the eyes of the people in terms of democracy.
this is another feat we have achieved and we must celebrate… it is a matter of constitutional interpretation, we should all respect it and move on," he told journalists after the court case.Also commenting on this matter, Attorney-General Godfred Dame said the Supreme Court has made an empathic determination of the case on the vacant seat saga.The apex court has by a 5-2 Majority decision upheld the suit filed by Alexander Afenyo-Markin on the controversial declaration of four vacant seats by Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin on Tuesday, November 12.The apex court said the full reasons will be made available tomorrow Wednesday, November 13.Godfred Dame told journalists after the court ruling that he expects the Speaker to comply with the court decision."It is an emphatic determination of the matter by the court and I expect the speaker to comply.
He is law-abiding, I have known him for a very long time, so I expect him to comply with the court decision.
