President Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, has in accordance with The Local Governance Act (936) elevated Techiman the Bono East Regional capital from a Municipal Assembly to a Metropolitan status.In a letter released from the Jubilee House in Accra, the President in reference to a letter dated 22nd October, 2024 from the Ministry of Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development granted executive approval for three Municipalities thus; Kpone-Katamanso Municipal Assembly, Gomoa-East Municipal Assembly and Techiman Municipal Assembly to be upgraded to Metropolises.This move is aimed at recognizing the town's growth and development and ensuring that it receives the necessary resources and support to continue thriving.With this new status, Techiman will receive increased funding and resources to support its infrastructure development, social services, and economic growth.

The town will also have access to more opportunities for investment and development, which will benefit its residents and contribute to the overall development of the Bono East Region.Speaking in an interview on Radio Link's "Agoo AM" Show in Techiman on Thursday, 7th November, 2024 hosted by Omanpanin Papa Kwame Atoapem; the Member of Parliament for Techiman South Constituency honourable Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah who doubles as the Local Government Minister said the President also gave the approval for twelve (12) Districts to be elevated to Municipalities.He mentioned Bole, Afigya-Kwabre South, Atwima Kwanwoma, Atwima Nwabiagya North, Obuasi East, Sekyere South, Ningo-Prampram, Anloga, South Tongu Shama, Techiman North and Pru East as Districts to benefit from the upgrade to Municipalities.Mr.

Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah threw more light on the benefits these upgrades would bring to the respective Municipalities and Districts especially Techiman attaining a Metropolitan status at this time."Now the status of Techiman is as equal as Accra and Kumasi so because of this Techiman and the Bono East region as a whole will be getting special attention from government in terms of development, that it will benefit public university, education infrastructure roads among others."Overall, the elevation of Techiman to metropolitan status is a significant milestone for the town and a testament to its progress and potential.
