Following the passing of Madam Akua Donkor, the Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) presidential candidate, the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has announced a temporary halt in the printing of presidential ballot papers for the December 7, 2024, election.
This decision allows the GFP time to select and nominate a new candidate.
Citing Article 50(4) of the 1992 Constitution, the EC explained that a ten-day period is allowed for the nomination of a new candidate if a candidate passes away after nominations have closed but before the election.
The GFP has been urged to identify a replacement and promptly inform the Commission.
