The Ghana Police Service has urged the public to disregard reports circulating in the media claiming that they assaulted Oliver Barker-Vormawor, one of the leaders of the Democracy Hub, who was arrested on September 23, 2024, for allegedly violating the law.
In a statement, the police clarified that Barker-Vormawor was granted bail by the High Court on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in the sum of GH¢20,000 with two sureties, without justification.
However, the police noted that several attempts to execute the bail have been unsuccessful due to Barker-Vormawor's inability to secure the required sureties. "The Ghana Police Service wishes to state that report circulating in the media space that the Police have beaten Oliver Barker-Vormawor is false and baseless," part of the statement read.
The police confirmed that the victim sustained minor scratches on his right hand, as a result of him resisting handcuffs after several persuasions to transfer him to another cell. "On 19th October 2024, the Police had intelligence that the accused was planning to compromise the security of other inmates and the Police Station.
