Cynthia Mamle Morrison, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Agona West in the Central Region, has been injuncted from contesting in the 2024 parliamentary election as an independent candidate.

This decision comes less than two months before the December 7, 2024, polls, following Morrison's nomination to run as an independent after losing the NPP parliamentary primaries for the Agona West Constituency.

On Friday, October 11, 2024, the District Magistrate Court in Agona Swedru issued the order while hearing a challenge to Morrison's candidature brought forth by three residents of Agona Swedru.

The court also directed the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), the second defendant in the case, to cease processing the MP's nomination for the upcoming election. "WHEREAS having come on the 11th day of September 2024 before HIS WORSHIP, VICTOR KUSI ESQUIRE, DISTRICT MAGISTRATE, Agona Swedru. "AND UPON hearing AUSTIN KWARENA BRAND-POWERS, Counsel for the plaintiff herein, the Motion is Granted," part of the court document cited by GhanaWeb reads.
