President John Dramani Mahama has issued a strong directive to the Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to immediately collaborate in expanding Ghana's e-visa platform, with the goal of fully digitising visa application processes and enhancing the country's appeal as a travel and trade destination.

Speaking at the commissioning of new digital immigration facilities on Monday, August 4, President Mahama said the new platform must go beyond airports and be extended to cover sea and land border posts across Ghana.

He also tasked the ministries to integrate the system with the nation's e-gate technology and support the development of advanced cargo information systems to benefit customs operations. "I'm directing the Hon.

Ministers for Interior, Transport, and Foreign Affairs to collaborate to ensure that this platform is expanded to enable us to implement this long-awaited e-services for the country," Mahama said. "I'm charging them to extend this system to cover both the sea and land border posts, integrate with our e-gate systems, and the adoption of capabilities to extend, to perform the advancement of the cargo information system and also for the benefit of our customs." According to him, these policy directives will not only modernise immigration operations but also remove bottlenecks that discourage travel and investment in Ghana. "These policy directives will ensure the country enjoys the full benefits of what we're witnessing today," Mahama explained. "The e-visa system will ease visa application processes, reduce paperwork, bureaucracy, support tourism, and make Ghana an even more attractive travel destination for business.
