The flagbearer of All People's Congress (APC), Dr.
Hassan Ayariga, has called on the Asantehene, , to leverage his influence to put an end to illegal mining, popularly known as galamsey, in the Ashanti Region.
According to Ayariga, Otumfuo's authority surpasses that of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo when it comes to commanding respect in the Ashanti Region, and he believes the Asantehene is uniquely positioned to halt the environmental devastation caused by galamsey.
Ayariga's appeal comes amid increasing concerns about the damage being done to water bodies, farmlands, and cocoa plantations as a result of illegal mining.
