West African immigrant traders in Ghana: Study shows 85.6% prefer temporary stay – Migration policy research

Professor Elijah Yendaw Director General, MDPI Commissioner of National Development Planning Commission A new study has revealed that the majority of West African itinerant immigrant retailers in Accra intend to stay in Ghana temporarily, with family and friendship networks playing a decisive role in their migration decisions.

The study, conducted by Professor Elijah Yendaw and published in the Journal of Identity and Migration Studies, surveyed 779 West African immigrant retailers across nine Accra neighbourhoods.
