Protecting Ghana’s forests from galamsey requires action, not argument – A Rocha Ghana to NAIMOS

Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), A Rocha Ghana has reaffirmed its assessment that more than 50 forest reserves across the country are under threat from illegal mining, despite official disputes that put the number lower.

The group recalled the repeal of Legislative Instrument 2462, which had been intended to exclude all forest reserves from mining interests—both legal and illegal—and to compel the state to take necessary protective measures.

Government representatives, including officials from the Ministry of the Interior and the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS), have contested the figure, stating that 44 reserves are impacted.
