Political parties must evolve beyond 'election machines' – Asiedu Nketiah

Johnson Asiedu Nketiah is the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress The National Chairman of Ghana’s National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has called on political parties across Africa to transform from mere “election machines” into strong institutions capable of formulating policies and providing effective oversight of governments.

The dialogue ultimately underscored the importance of strengthening Africa’s democratic institutions and ensuring that political parties serve not only as vehicles for electoral victories but also as institutions that contribute meaningfully to national development and democratic consolidation.

He maintained that regular elections alone are not sufficient to guarantee strong democratic governance, stressing the need for political parties to embrace greater accountability, policy development and institutional responsibility.
