Gov’t supports moving presidential elections to November under constitutional reforms

The government has accepted a proposal to move Ghana's presidential election to the first week of November, with Attorney General and Minister for Justice Dominic Ayine announcing that the change will form part of planned constitutional amendments arising from the Constitution Review Committee's recommendations.

Presenting the government's response to the Constitution Review Committee's report at the Jubilee House on Thursday, July 30, Mr Ayine said the proposal was intended to provide greater certainty to the country's electoral calendar while allowing sufficient time for the transition to a new administration before the constitutional inauguration date of 7 January."We have also accepted that the presidential election be held on a day in the first week of November, as the Electoral Commission may specify by constitutional instrument.
