GoldBod to support reclamation of three devastated forest reserves in 2027 – Sammy Gyamfi

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) will support the reclamation of three forest reserves affected by illegal mining next year as part of efforts to restore degraded landscapes, its Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has disclosed.
He said a combination of formalisation, enforcement, reclamation and gold traceability would be necessary to reduce the environmental damage caused by illegal mining while ensuring that Ghana derives maximum economic value from its gold resources.
He explained that the initiative was being undertaken despite GoldBod not being responsible for the destruction of the forest reserves, stressing that the institution had a responsibility to contribute to the broader national effort to combat the environmental consequences of illegal mining.
