GNAT issues September 7 deadline over unresolved teachers’ concerns, threatens strike

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) has given the Ghana Education Service (GES) and other relevant government institutions until September 7, to resolve outstanding concerns over teachers’ promotion placements, career progression and conditions of service, warning that failure to act could trigger industrial action.“In the light of the above, the National Executive of GNAT calls on all the relevant authorities to act expeditiously on the aforementioned issues on or before September 7, 2026, to avert any industrial action,” the association stated.
The warning follows a meeting of the association’s National Executive on August 7, 2026, at the GNAT Headquarters in Accra, where the leadership expressed concern over what it described as prolonged delays in addressing critical issues affecting teachers within the GES.
