Ghana government accepts key constitutional reforms

The Ghana government says it has accepted major constitutional reforms, including the five-year presidential and parliamentary terms and the election of District Chief Executives (DCEs).

Dr Dominic Ayine, Attorney-General and Minister for Justice, announced the government’s position at a press briefing in Accra on its response to the final recommendations of the Constitutional Review Committee (CRC).

It has also backed the abolition of the death penalty, a citizen-initiative mechanism for constitutional amendments and a review of the composition and size of government.
