Ghana can win next World Cup or AFCON if current team and coach are maintained – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has expressed confidence in the future of Ghana’s senior national football team, the Black Stars, stating that the current squad has the potential to win both the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and the FIFA World Cup if it is kept together and given sustained support.

Speaking during an inspection of the Ho Sports Stadium as part of his Resetting Ghana Tour of the Volta Region, the president said the Black Stars exceeded expectations at the recent FIFA World Cup despite many predicting an early exit.“I am sure that if we keep this team and we persuade the coach to continue to work with the team, by the time of the next AFCON and World Cup, we will have a team that can claim the championship in any of those two competitions,” he added.
