Extend defect liability period beyond 1 year for road contractors - Minister proposes

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway projects last Tuesday, Mr Agbodza said he was discussing with the ministers of Finance and Works and Housing to change the one-year defect liability to make road contractors more accountable for the quality of roads they executed.
The Minister of Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza, has proposed a change in the one-year defect liability period (DLP) provided for in road contracts and replace it with a longer tenor.“After a road is constructed, anything can go wrong, but the idea is that anytime we pay billions of cedis on a road and after one year, we say that the defect liability period is gone, and so if anything goes wrong, it is not the fault of the contractor and the consultant must change,” he said.
