EXIM Bank case against Wontumi adjourned to July 27 as plea negotiations continue
Proceedings in the criminal case involving the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, have been adjourned until July 27, 2026, to allow ongoing plea negotiations between the prosecution and the defence to continue.
Court documents further allege that the NPP regional chairman submitted a forged receipt to officials of the state-owned development bank in support of an application for an additional GH¢4 million loan facility.
Plea bargaining, which is provided for under Ghana's criminal justice system, enables the prosecution and an accused person to negotiate a resolution to criminal proceedings, subject to approval by the court.
