Ashanti Region to introduce virtual labour room - To address rising maternal deaths

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is set to introduce a virtual labour room concept in selected health facilities to address rising maternal deaths in the region.9 per cent of the region’s maternal deaths was within facilities in the region, 15 per cent occurred as a result of referrals from outside the region.

How it will operate Dr Adomako-Boateng said since pregnant women delivered at the Community Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds up to KATH, the only tertiary hospital in the region with a lot of expertise, the labour room where a woman was to deliver would be connected electronically to higher facilities for assistance in case of a challenge.
