The National Youth Wing of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called for the prosecution of the arrested Democracy Hub protesters. According to the youth wing, the protesters engaged in acts such as assaulting public officers, unlawful assembly, and the destruction of property, and must face the full rigors of the law.Referring to the individuals arrested during the protest, the NPP Youth Wing described them as miscreants and hooligans masquerading as demonstrators.
They emphasized that these individuals should be held accountable for their unlawful actions in court.
The protest in question took place over three days at the 37 Roundabout, where demonstrators raised concerns about illegal small-scale mining (galamsey) and economic mismanagement.
On Sunday, September 22, 2024, tensions escalated as a confrontation broke out between the Democracy Hub protesters and the Ghana Police Service, leading to multiple arrests.
