Asante Akim North lawmaker Kwame Andy Appiah Kubi has said that the fight against illegal small-scale mining should be devoid of politics.

He states that the impact of galamsey knows no political colors therefore the need to address it dispassionately. "it should be devoid of politics whoever has not performed has not performed in the capacity he has been given to serve," he said while speaking during the thought leadership forum on the theme "Galamsey Fight: Beyond the talk, what next?" organized by Media General in Accra on Wednesday, September 25.

Regarding the Legislative Instrument that permits mining the forest, he said he opposed it but the dissenting voices did not have the required numbers to reject the law. "When the LI was filed, some of us disagreed but we needed two two-thirds majority to be able to reject it, we did;t have it," he stressed.

For his part, Former Chief Executive of the Minerals Commission, Dr Anthony Aubynn said that no law permits anyone to mine on water bodies therefore anyone doing that is automatically engaged in Galamsey.
