Fisherfolk in the Western Region of Ghana are calling for urgent accountability over the use of proceeds from the sale of premix fuel, accusing local Premix Fuel Committees of withholding financial reports for several years.

In the Shama District, committees at nine landing beaches have reportedly failed to provide financial accounts for the last four years, sparking widespread frustration.

According to the National Premix Fuel Committee Regulations of 2016 (L.I. 2233), these committees are required to submit financial reports every three months and deposit 53% of revenues into a community fund for local development projects.

However, the fisherfolk allege that the Premix Committees have breached this requirement, failing to disclose funds that should be used for much-needed community development initiatives.
