The Ghana Police Service has dismissed claims that it has prohibited the pressure group Democracy Hub from proceeding with its planned demonstration.

The service clarified that it has only requested the group to reconsider the location for their protest, citing a court order that bans demonstrations at Revolution Square from September 21 to 23, 2024.

This decision is based on concerns that the protest could disrupt public order.

In a press statement on Thursday, September 19, 2024, Director of Police Public Affairs ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi explained that while the protest cannot take place at Revolution Square, alternative locations are still viable.

She urged organizers to engage with the police to discuss these alternatives. "The Ghana Police Service throughout its engagement with the Democracy Hub assured them of the readiness of the police to provide the necessary security for the planned protest. "For emphasis, we wish to state categorically, that the Ghana Police Service has not stopped Democracy Hub from embarking on the planned protest.

The only disagreement is on their choice of the Revolution Square, in front of the Jubilee House as the location for the protest. "The service has put in place sufficient measures to provide security for the exercise from September 21-23, 2024 when a new location is agreed between the organisers and the police," part of the statement read.
