John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has taken a swipe at President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over what he said is his failure to emulate the erstwhile John Agyekum Kufuor-led administration.
John Mahama claims the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) under President Akufo-Addo's leadership has been fraught with extreme cronyism, resulting in the loss of confidence and apathy among party members.
Speaking during a community engagement as part of phase 2 of his Greater Accra regional tour, Mahama said the NPP needs to go into opposition to address its internal issues. "I have many friends in the NPP and I know that they themselves are disappointed in the performance of their government.
So many of them I have met, have said no, we are not going to vote, we are not happy with what is happening.
But I beg them, we all know that this NPP that is in government is not the NPP you and I know. "We have seen [John Agyekum] Kufuor as leader of the NPP before.
It was not the same as what is happening today.
So we know that it is a small family and friends that have hijacked their party. "So they shouldn't say they won't vote.
They should vote for NDC so that it will help them to take the party to opposition.
Then they will sack that family and friends people away and take their party back."
