A typhoid outbreak in the Oti Region has led to the deaths of several notable figures, including a traditional leader and a former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Dambai, according to Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong.
In an interview on Joy FM's Midday News on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, Gyapong expressed alarm over the rapid spread of the disease, calling the situation in Dambai "bad" and "scary." "Just yesterday, Monday, August 25, we lost one of our chiefs, the Asafoatse of the Dambai Traditional Council, to typhoid.
Many others have also lost their lives.
