Bournemouth striker Antoine Semenyo has said current punishments for racism in football do not go far enough, insisting stronger measures such as prison sentences should be considered.
His remarks come after what he described as a "painful" episode of racial abuse during his side's Premier League opener against Liverpool last weekend.
The Ghana international, who struck twice in Bournemouth's 4-2 defeat at Anfield, reported the incident directly to referee Anthony Taylor.
Merseyside Police later confirmed the arrest of a 47-year-old man on suspicion of an aggravated public order offence.
