The Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations has confirmed that the GHC 10,000 daily fine against MultiChoice Ghana (DSTV) is now in full effect after the company failed to meet an extended deadline to submit its pricing model details.
In an update shared on Friday, August 15, the sector minister, Samuel Nartey George said he had met with the management of DSTV Ghana "in the spirit of transparency and engagement" following their request for a stakeholder meeting. "To enable the Ministry of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations make better decisions, we had requested on the 4th of August that they provide the National Communications Authority Ghana with details of the pricing models for their various bouquets by 5th of August," the Minister said. "They requested for an extension to the 11th of August.
Per the Electronic Communications Act, failure to produce information requested by the Regulator attracts a GHS 10,000 daily fine.
In good faith, I waived the fine from the 5th till yesterday when I met the management again and they still had not submitted the requested information," he added.
