The Upper West Regional Police Command has announced the "successful prosecution of Mohammed Ali, who has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour".
The sentence was pronounced, according to a statement by the Ghana Police Service (GPS) by "His Honour Jonathan Avoogo, on Monday, August 11, 2025". "Mohammed Ali came to police attention following a fatal motor accident at Bugubelle on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in which he was involved.
Responding officers discovered incriminating exhibits on him at the accident site, including a quantity of ammunition and offensive weapon," the statement signed by Peter Kamasa, ACP, Deputy Regional Police Commander, UWR, revealed. "Upon further interrogation," police continued, "Ali admitted being aware of the items found in his possession and confessed to having knowledge on ongoing robberies in the municipality. "He also identified other accomplices, who are currently on the run." Subsequently, Ali was "charged with robbery, preparation to commit crime, to wit robbery, and possession of firearm without lawful authority.
He pleaded guilty to all charges, leading to his conviction and sentencing".
