Former Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has shared a heartfelt tribute to the late Samuel Sarpong, former Ashanti Regional Minister, who tragically lost his life in a helicopter crash.
During a flower-laying and candle-lighting ceremony to honour the eight victims, Afriyie Ankrah revealed the close bond he shared with Sarpong.
According to Afriyie Ankrah, Sarpong was not just a colleague but also a trusted friend who often provided financial support when needed.
He revealed that "When I was Deputy Minister of Local Government and Sarpong was Mayor of Kumasi, we were very close." He recalled that "We were so close that sometimes when on Fridays, which I called market days, foot soldiers come and they finish you, is Sarpong I will call." According to Afriyie Ankrah, the late Sarpong did not hesitate to give him whatever financial support he ever requested from him, a gesture that highlighted their bond.
