Bibiani GoldStars captain Yakubu Haqq has underlined the importance of strong preparation ahead of the club's debut in the CAF Champions League.

The Western North-based side are set to compete in Africa's top-tier club competition for the first time after securing their maiden Ghana Premier League title last season.

Haqq, 30, told Joy Sports that stepping onto the continental stage demands more than domestic success, especially as they prepare to face league champions from across Africa. "It's a tough task, which you need to prepare very well for, because we, being champions in Ghana, are going to face champions elsewhere," he said. "So each game you're in, you need to tell yourself you're playing against a champion, which I think is why this time our preparation is ahead of the previous seasons I know of GoldStars." GoldStars have made significant additions to their squad to strengthen all areas, with more signings expected before the Champions League campaign begins.

The Miners will discover their preliminary round opponents when the draw is conducted on August 12 by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
