Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has spoken with deep sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that killed eight people, including two ministers and key party officials, as they travelled to Obuasi on a government assignment.

According to him, the late officials were en route to complete work on a cooperative mining initiative when the aircraft went down in the Adansi area of the Ashanti Region. "The President is down, down, down emotionally," Haruna said, reflecting the weight of the loss on the nation's leadership. "We pray that God will give him the fortitude and the Ghanaian people to accept this tragic loss." He added that the Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is now leading the government's formal response and delegation to manage the aftermath of the crash and console the bereaved.

In a broader message of solidarity, Haruna also referenced a recent tragedy involving comrades in Yemen, adding: "We recall the sad passing of our colleague from Yemen, Abdullah Mohamed Al-Hakim, and the suffering of comrades there too." According to Haruna, the Vice President has constituted a team led by the Department of National Defence to support the ongoing response efforts, with other commanders working to provide needed assistance.
