Ghana's Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, has confirmed the tragic death of two cabinet ministers - Dr.
Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation - following a military helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region on Wednesday, August 6, 2025. The crash occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District while the ministers were en route to Obuasi aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter.
According to initial reports, the aircraft went off radar shortly after takeoff, prompting an emergency search and rescue operation.Also confirmed dead in the crash are Muniru Mohammed, the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator; Samuel Aboagye, a former Member of Parliament; and Samuel Sarpong, a Vice Chairman of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) who also served as a presidential staffer.
The helicopter was carrying eight individuals in total - five high-ranking passengers and three crew members.
