The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is set to implement a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after receiving approval from its Executive Council (EXCO), as part of efforts to improve player welfare and professionalise the domestic game.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante Twum confirmed the decision in an interview on Starr FM's Starr Sports Digest, noting that the move is designed to enhance standards and strengthen the competitiveness of the league. "The GFA will introduce a minimum wage structure for players in the Ghana Premier League after it was approved by EXCO," Asante Twum said.
The policy â which will be presented to Congress for final approval ahead of the 2025/26 season â will set a base salary that all clubs must pay their players, ensuring fair compensation across the league.
Ghana's top-tier clubs have historically struggled to retain talent due to low wages and financial instability, resulting in a steady migration of players to foreign leagues.
