The Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon.
Sam George, has issued a stern warning to telecom companies, stating that government will not hesitate to apply heavy sanctions if quality of service continues to lag.
Speaking during the Government Accountability Series, he revealed that Ghana's three main telecom operators have committed to investing $150 million to improve their networks by the end of the year. "We are very well aware of the challenges," he said. "We've given them until the third quarter to implement improvements using the spectrum allocated.
After that, we will begin rigorous enforcement." He further indicated that the Ministry of Communications will direct the National Communications Authority (NCA) to fine telcos that fail to meet service obligations.
