Minister for Communication, Digital Technology and Innovation, Hon.

Sam Nartey George, has issued a firm ultimatum to Multichoice Ghana, operators of DSTV, to slash subscription prices or risk losing their broadcasting license in Ghana.

According to the Minister, if the company fails to comply by Wednesday, 7th August 2025, their broadcasting license will be suspended.

He made this announcement during a live broadcast of the Government Accountability Series, where he emphasized the government's duty to protect consumer interest amid public outcry over DSTV's current pricing and content. "Despite a 30% appreciation of the cedi over the past five months, DSTV subscription fees have not been reduced accordingly," Sam George stated. "Ghanaians deserve better-this is not about politics, it's about fairness." Last month, the Minister publicly called on Multichoice to implement a 30% reduction in DSTV rates, urging them to align with the strengthened Ghanaian currency.
