Martin Amidu has sharply criticised Attorney-General Dominic Ayine's justification for discontinuing the criminal case against Dr.

Kwabena Duffuor and others involved in the UNIBANK saga.

Referring to Ayine's public explanation for filing a nolle prosequi, Amidu argued that the state still had legal grounds to pursue financial recovery through civil proceedings, regardless of the outcome of the criminal trial. "Even if the accused persons were acquitted after the criminal trial, the State could still pursue the recovery of the total amount of GH₵1.2 billion as part of the civil case," he stated.

He dismissed Ayine's assertion of taking a "pragmatic, wholistic approach" as insufficient, stressing that the decision to abandon the prosecution cannot withstand legal scrutiny.
