The Ghana Scholarships Secretariat has announced that the government has released $1 million to help settle part of the outstanding arrears owed to the University of Memphis in the United States.

The intervention follows mounting concerns over the possible revocation of scholarships, evictions, and deportations of Ghanaian students enrolled at the institution.

Registrar of the Scholarships Secretariat, Alex Kwaku Asafo-Agyei, assured students and their families that efforts are underway to avert any adverse consequences, during a press conference held in Accra on July 30,2025. "We are on course with the issues regarding the Ghanaian students at the University of Memphis.

Ghanaian students will not be deported; I give you that assurance," he stated.
