The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has announced plans to stage a nationwide demonstration on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, in protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) over concerns about discrepancies in the voter register.

The National Chairman of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, revealed this during a press briefing after filing the party's flagbearer, John Mahama's, nomination forms for the upcoming 2024 general elections.

The NDC has repeatedly raised concerns about the integrity of the voter register, with their latest demand being a full audit of the EC's IT systems.

The party claims that the register contains irregularities that could undermine the credibility of the election process.

Asiedu Nketiah emphasised the importance of ensuring transparency, and the planned demonstrations are meant to pressure the EC to address the issues.

The protests will be staged in all 16 regional capitals, with NDC executives presenting petitions at the EC's regional offices and headquarters in Accra.

While addressing the media after filing the nomination, he said: "On the 17th of this month, the NDC is embarking on a massive nationwide demonstration in all 16 regional capitals, descend on the electoral commission officers and we in Accra will descend to the headquarters and present further petition as to why we think that they should conduct themselves in a manner that will guarantee peaceful, free and fair election."
