President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to transforming Ghana's economy through agribusiness, with a strong focus on industrialisation and local value addition.
The President pledged to scrap import duties on agro-processing machinery to support local businesses and encourage investment in the agricultural value chain while addressing participants at the Agribusiness Dialogue.
He also announced that government procurement contracts would prioritise Ghana-made agricultural products, creating a secure market for local producers and processors.
Reflecting on the roots of his administration's vision, Mahama invoked the legacy of Ghana's first President. "We must pick up where Nkrumah left off, with clarity and courage," he said, referring to Kwame Nkrumah's once-ambitious agro-industrialisation dream, which he believes was prematurely cut short.
