Veteran journalist and Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, , has taken a swipe at the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over the petition the party's Members of Parliament submitted to the presidency on the menace of illegal small-scale mining, popularly known as galamsey.
In a post shared on X on Monday, July 28, 2025, Pratt Jnr expressed shock at the NPP over the fact that the party is making demands on galamsey and blaming the current government for the menace.
He asserted that the NPP, when it was in power, looked on while galamsey festered, destroying the country's land and water bodies.
He indicated that former President , who led the NPP for eight years, failed to fight galamsey after putting his presidency on the line, but today the same NPP wants to blame the seven-month-old National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by President for the menace. "At the beginning of his tenure as President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo, the candidate of the New Patriotic Party (#NPP), said he was ready to put his position on the line in the fight against illegal mining (galamsey).
