Former Minister of Health, Dr , has warned officers of the Ghana Police Service who will be deployed to the Eastern Region for the upcoming Akwatia by-election following the death of the sitting Member of Parliament Ernest Yaw Kumi.

According to the former Member of Parliament for the Ledzokuku Constituency in the Greater Accra Region, if the police service fails to provide officers with weapons for their protection during the election, their lives will be at risk.

Speaking in an interview on Wontumi TV, which has been shared widely on social media, Okoe Boye, who is also a key member of the (NPP), said the party was putting security measures in place ahead of the by-election, citing the violence that marred the Ablekuma North election rerun. "What I will say is that all of us love Ghana, and if God does not grant wisdom to the Ghana Police and they follow the same path as what is happening in the country, it will not be proper.

In fact, if you are a police officer listening to me, and the IGP sends you to Akwatia to work without a weapon, just know that your life is at risk," he stated.
