The demolition of unauthorised structures at the Sakumono Ramsar Site resumed today.
This comes two months after the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council first launched the exercise to clear buildings illegally constructed in waterlogged areas.
Unlike the initial operation, however, the second phase of the demolition was met with fierce resistance from residents, who accused authorities of illegally demolishing buildings that, according to them, were not located in waterlogged areas.
Many of the residents, wearing red armbands and scarves, called on President Mahama to intervene and order the authorities spearheading the exercise to stop.
