The Ghana Police Service says it has thwarted a planned armed robbery in Accra, following a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation by the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) Headquarters.

According to an official statement posted on the Service's Facebook page, the operation was carried out on Monday, 15th July 2025, based on credible intelligence that five armed men were lodging at a hotel in Labadi and plotting to rob a foreign national at Cantonments.

While en route to their target location in a Toyota Yaris, the suspects reportedly detected the police surveillance and opened fire on the officers.

In the exchange, one police officer sustained gunshot wounds to his legs and underarm.
