The Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP), Dr Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, has appealed to management of Maga Broadcasting Network (MBN TV), to use their platform to promote the Ga language. This she said would help preserve the language of the indigenous people of Accra and promote national development. The Minister who is also the Member of Parliament for Krowor Constituency, made the appeal during the official outdooring and dedication of MBN TV last Saturday at Nungua, a suburb in Accra.Formerly known as Maranatha TV, the station has been rebranded as MBN TV following fire outbreak that raised down their entire building in 2016.Dr Lartey indicated that the media played an important role in the preservation of our culture heritage. To this end, she said MBN must dedicate series of programmes targeted at promoting and spreading the Ga-Dangme language and its values to reach a wider audience since the station was operating within the Greater Accra Region and in the Krowor Constituency."In addition to all the programmes you will be airing please consider propagating, projecting, and articulating the voice of Ga-Dangmes so that the indigens and others in the Constituency and beyond would appreciate and learn the language" she said. The MP said it was good to see and know that there were so many programmes in other dialects but there should be more activities and programmes in Ga-Dangme to enable the indigens to tune in to the station regularly.Explaining the reasons behind the rebranding, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MBN TV, Bishop Noble Francis Afotey Odai, said it was challenging for the faith-based television station to operate commercially in order to cater for our bills."As a church TV station, we strategically had to change our name so that we can do business with others to improve our finances since we need funds to pay our bills including our staff " Bishop said.Bishop Odai, who is also the Founder and General Overseer of Maranatha Power Ministries International, said the zeal to reach a wider and broader audience with the gospel pushed him to establish the TV station."As a missionary, my goal is to see people all over the world get the opportunity to hear and read the word of God and I believe it can be achieved through the power of television apart of preaching to them personally" he indicated. The Minister of Communication, Digitalisation Technology and Innovations, Mr Samuel Nartey George, who represented President John Dramani Mahama, congratulated the MBN team for their persistency and urged them to be innovative in their operations.Mr Felix Matey Glover, the General Manager of MBN TV, said that the new building had a reception, several studios, a lobby room, dressing room and others took almost 12 months to complete. BY VICTOR A BUXTON
