President has authorised law enforcement agencies to apprehend anti-galamsey task forces that are allegedly operating illegally and extorting money from mining companies.
According to him, any person found culpable would be dealt with severely and prosecuted, as he expressed zero tolerance for galamsey-related activities and corrupt acts under his administration.
Speaking during his Thank You Tour in the Western North Region on July 15, 2025, he said, "I've also learned of the activities of some illegal anti-galamsey task forces who go around extorting money from legitimate small-scale mining companies. "I've requested that the authorities arrest and prosecute any individuals involved in these illegal anti-galamsey acts." President Mahama reiterated his commitment to combating illegal mining activities in waterbodies and forest reserves, emphasising the need to curb the menace.
He also reacted to the spike in illegal mining activities in several regions of the nation, describing it as a national emergency.
