The revised Energy Sector Levies under the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Act, 2025 (Act 1141), have officially come into effect as of today, Wednesday, July 16, 2025.

This updated levy structure, now being enforced by the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA), was rolled out following months of deliberations and a temporary suspension that allowed authorities to monitor global market trends and safeguard the marginal relief recently experienced at local fuel pumps.

According to the GRA, the adjustments were made in close coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Energy after assessing current economic conditions.

The revised rates, as captured below, reflect a significant upward revision for key petroleum products including petrol and diesel: While Petrol (PMI) and Diesel (AGO) have both seen a sharp increase from GHS 0.95 to GHS 1.95 and GHS 0.93 to GHS 1.93 respectively, Marine Gas Oil (Local) now attracts GHS 0.23 per litre-up from just GHS 0.03.
